Projects
Beltane String Quartet
The Beltane String Quartet was formed in Amsterdam in 2025, from the initiative of Phoebe Tarleton and Christina Schoonakker, who first met as children whilst studying at Wells Cathedral specialist music school in the UK.
Our goal as a quartet is to play at a high level, whilst keeping joy, authenticity, communication and creative experimentation as core values. We believe that is an important part of keeping classical music connected, relevant and valuable to wider society, as well as other artistic fields.
In addition to standard repertoire we are interested in playing newer, lesser recognised and female composers, such as our recent performance of the Rosy Wertheim quartet at the Forbidden Music festival in Amsterdam.
Studio Work
LILA Autumn/Winter:
LILA is the musical culmination of film composers Jack Hui Litster (Canada) and Robert Lanting (Netherlands). The raw beauty of nature is the main inspiration of this trans-Atlantic duo. Their music is a blend of ear-titillating organic ambient sounds, with the compositional sensibilities of neo-classical music. This combination makes for a unique cinematic experience, where the music evokes the images. LILA’s debut album Autumn/Winter is an auditory ode to their love of the cold seasons of the northern hemisphere, and features performances by Raphael Weinroth-Browne on cello and Phoebe Tarleton on violin.
CD Recordings
Phoebe has recorded several classical orchestral recordings on labels such as Naïve, Naxos, and Alpha Classics.
This CD was recorded in 2024 on instruments from Mahler’s time with the Mahler Academy Orchestra.
